NeoGraft Hair Transplantation
NeoGraft Hair Restoration
For many men and women, the frustration of hair loss isn’t just about appearance – it’s about losing part of their identity. Our hair goes a long way to define us. Baseball caps and assorted hats do not take the place of a full head of hair. No matter if we wear it long, or short, our hair tells people a lot about who we are. When we lose it, we lose a big piece our uniqueness and individuality.
If you’re one of the many residents in Denver experiencing hair loss, finding the right hair restoration procedure is important. Modern advancements in hair transplant treatments have improved from the traditional strip method for hair restoration, which left lasting linear scars on the scalp. An advanced technique called Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is one of these advancements; a procedure which removes and inserts healthy hair follicles one follicle at a time.
This FUE hair restoration technique will take hair follicles from parts of the scalp not affected by hair loss, typically the lower, back of the scalp, and transfer these follicles to areas of the scalp or face experiencing hair loss. Our patients love their natural-looking outcomes of FUE hair restoration, and with our NeoGraft treatment regimen, a great hair transplant technique is finally here in Denver.

How do Hair Transplants Work?
For this procedure, Dr. Schmidt uses the sophisticated technology called NeoGraft. This FUE technique produces even, natural results with essentially no evidence of surgery. NeoGraft may also be used to restore facial hair or to camouflage scars on the scalp, beard or eyebrow areas.
The NeoGraft technique is different than traditional hair transplants. In the past, surgery involved removing a large section of skin with many hair follicles from one area of the head and then grafting the entire section of skin onto the balding area. NeoGraft transplantation is a more precise and less invasive procedure. Rather than removing many follicles at once, NeoGraft extracts individual hair follicles, which are then individually transferred to recipient sites in the balding area of the scalp. The results are virtually seamless and essentially leave no visible scars.
While this technique is minimally invasive, it does require a great deal of technical skill and artistry to achieve natural, uniform results. Dr. Schmidt pairs his extensive training and expertise and the skills of our transplant technicians with the technology to restore the hairline and hair thickness that patients recognize as their own when they look in the mirror.

Our NeoGraft Procedure
NeoGraft hair transplant technology allows double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Schmidt’s team to harvest each hair follicle graft accurately, for maximum results and minimal scarring. NeoGraft allows him to provide comfort, consistency, and precision to all his patients. Our team utilizes an automatic device which removes individual hair follicles using suction and rotation. NeoGraft organizes grafted follicles in units of one to four hairs, with the removed extractions having a consistent length and diameter. This uniformity provides a higher rate of survival and success.
The suction removal process can remove the hair follicle without damage to the graft units. By keeping them intact and healthy, the grafts have the best chance to thrive in the new area. Also, to ensure the protection of every follicle, the technique keeps the grafts sealed in a container which allows them to retain their moisture.
Never is the graft handled by hand, and they are fully protected before insertion. Dr. Schmidt’s team will implant each graft to follow the normal growth pattern to ensure results match your normal hair growth.
Dr. Schmidt will numb your scalp before the extraction portion of the procedure begins and again before the grafting portion of the procedure begins, so your hair transplant is as comfortable and pain-free as possible. NeoGraft is a one-time treatment performed in our state-of-the-art facility in Denver. The procedure is usually done within three to eight hours depending on the number of grafts implanted. Typical initial recovery is 3-4 days.
The NeoGraft technique provides our patients with a fuller head of hair, little discomfort, and permanent results.

Hair Transplant for Women
Dr. Schmidt and his team understand how personal hair loss is for any person, especially for women. Female pattern hair loss is not rare, affecting millions of women. However, women experience hair loss in a different way than men. Female pattern hair loss begins at the crown of the head and widens through the center top line of the scalp. Treatment requires a doctor who understands the aesthetics of a woman’s scalp. Dr. Schmidt’s advanced training not only provides his female patients with the highest standard in hair transplant technology but also his understanding of the deeply personal choice in seeking treatment. He focuses on comprehensive education his patients’ conditions and options to allow them to make the decision that is right for them.
NeoGraft Results and Recovery
Hair transplant patients should be aware that the results of this procedure are not immediate. In the first two to three weeks after the procedure, the hair within the grafted follicle will shed or fall out. The transplanted hair follicle will remain. New hair will grow in the transplanted follicles within three to four months after the procedure and continue to grow normally.
Of course, the results are worth the wait: a healthy, natural head of your hair that you can cut, dye, and style like you always have.
Dr. Schmidt will provide personalized instructions regarding post-operative care for the scalp after treatment Typically, patients can remove dressings after two days and return to most normal activity. However, as with most procedures, it is recommended to wait two weeks before resuming strenuous activities.
While the hair grafts themselves are long-lasting, the balding process does not stop after the procedure. Some patients decide to return for touch-up procedures in the following years after initial surgery if desired.
FAQs
What is FUE?
Follicular-Unit Extraction or FUE is an advanced, minimally-invasive hair transplant technique which facilitates the harvesting of individual follicles from a donor area without an incision and therefore leaving no linear scar.
What is a NeoGraft hair transplant?
NeoGraft is a new technique which enables the harvesting of hair follicles during a FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), improving the speed and accuracy of the traditional manual extraction instruments.
What are the key advantages of FUE over the Strip Harvesting Method?
FUE hair transplants heal at a faster rate with less discomfort than the strip harvesting method. No stitches are required, and no scarring is a result. The patient will have the option of wearing their hair however they feel without worrying about a tell-tale scar. Downtime is shorter with fewer restrictions and risks.
Who are good candidates for FUE and a NeoGraft hair transplant?
Any patient who would be comfortable wearing short hairstyles on the back or side of their scalp immediately after the procedure or those who wish for the least amount of restriction after treatment are good candidates for FUE and NeoGraft. Also, any patient who needs treatment for a scar which prevents hair growth over hair areas like mustache, beard, eyebrow or scalp.
How soon will I see NeoGraft results?
The technology behind NeoGraft is simple. Hair follicles are extracted from the back of the scalp which grow naturally during hair loss on top. The hair follicles which hold your hair grafts are living tissues which grow in cycles. Once the living hair follicle is implanted into the receptive area, the grafted hair will remain for two to three weeks before shedding – this is normal and a critical part of the new growth process. After the shedding, the new growth will start in three to four months, and your hair experiences normal growth continually. Your results will look natural and healthy.
How long do the results last?
The transplanted hair will continue to grow always, but hair loss can continue for some patients due to genetics. Maintenance will be necessary for some patients if a severe balding pattern continues. For more density, some patients will require additional treatment sessions. Dr. Schmidt will discuss this topic during your consultation.
How much of a difference are the cost of a traditional strip method and FUE?
The cost for an FUE hair transplant technique reflects the more intricate and detailed nature of those procedures compared to those performed with a traditional strip method. Pricing is dependent on the number of hair follicles to be transferred. A recommendation of the number of grafts to be transferred to treat your area of concern is provided during your comprehensive consultation with Dr. Schmidt.
How would you compare the result achieved with a NeoGraft FUE technique with those of the traditional strip method?
Outcomes are similar. FUE procedures yield grafts which contain follicles called follicular units of up to four hair follicles. Strip method harvests, which are microscopically dissected into grafts of up to three follicles, would also yield similar follicular-unit grafts. With each case, the grafts are implanted with precision, care, and artistry into the recipient area, the outcomes with FUE would be close, if not the same, to those of a surgeon performing the strip harvest method. The difference is not in hair growth, but how the donor area is harvested either by small individual graft extractions or a larger strip of scalp and the visible linear scar that is present after the strip method.
Is NeoGraft suitable for both men and women?
Yes, because the FUE method is a minimally-invasive treatment. It is a practical option for both women and men looking to restore their own hair that lives and grows.
Do I have to get a buzz cut to have a hair transplant?
No, not if you normally wear your hair long. When your donor hair is long enough, harvesting using the NeoGraft method can be accomplished by shaving a small area which can be covered by hair that is left. When you wear your hair short, it helps to shave it close for maximum yield. In addition, it looks more natural quicker as the new hair begins to grow in the graft sites.
